School security necessary in a changing society

Having heard about the recent shootings, it intrigued me to read further. My school recently did a lockdown drill and I am constantly aware of the dangers and safety precautions we must take as a school. I agree with the statement that new security systems should be put in like the cameras, intercom speakers and the electric door release. It is about time that we adopt more safety procedures within schools.

The Cumberland County Board of Education is considering building renovations that total about $5.8 million in an effort to get rid of portable classrooms at two schools, but some board members question why building a new school hasn't been considered.
Reagan Elementary providing a blueprint for safety

A $200 per child investment could put tornado safe rooms in future Oklahoma schools. That $200 represents the extra cost — extrapolated over the number of children, teachers and staff protected — to build tornado safe classrooms in new school construction based on the Reagan Elementary model. Safe rooms that double as classrooms at Norman’s newest elementary cost about $20,000 more per room than a traditional classroom.
